Look, I don't agree with everything in the manuals, and I suspect you feel the same way. If the department you fall under uses them, you need to know them.

This doesn't mean you should be a mindless robot during incidents/operations, or that you can't call an audible. What it really does is free up the OIC from making a new plan every time you run a call.
